TREES LINE A PRIVATE DRIVEWAY OFF MULHOLLAND DRIVE IN THE SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS NEAR MALIBU, CALIFORNIA, WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE NORTHWESTERN EDGE OF LOS ANGELES. THE MOUNTAINS CONTAIN THE LAST SEMI-WILDERNESS IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY. SOME 84 PERCENT OF THE STATE'S RESIDENTS LIVE WITHIN 30 MILES OF THE COAST, AND THIS CONCENTRATION HAS RESULTED IN INCREASED LAND USE PRESSURE. OF THE 1,072 MILES OF MAINLAND SHORELINE (EXCLUDING SAN FRANCISCO BAY), 61 PERCENT IS PRIVATELY OWNED

Charles O'Rear (born 26 November 1941, Miss) is an American photographer. His image Bliss was used as the default desktop wallpaper of Microsoft's Windows XP operating system. O'Rear started his career with the daily newspapers Emporia Gazette, The Kansas City Star, and Los Angeles Times; worked for National Geographic magazine; and was part of the Environmental Protection Agency's DOCUMERICA project.
